Every year, at 8:30 pm on the last Saturday in March, millions across the world come together to raise awareness for the need to protect the Earth better, by switching off lights for an hour – Earth Hour.

We are happy to inform you that together with valued partners and supporters from across the globe, Earth Hour has grown from a one city event in 2007 into the world’s largest and most well known environmental campaign for the planet reaching over 1.8 billion people worldwide last year.

The result of this one hour, when people have switched off lights and lit candles instead, has been that entire streets and skylines have gone dark, sending a reminder to the world about the climate crisis and the huge losses to nature as cities march on a road to growth.

World Scouting has been supporting this initiative every year. It is an
opportunity for every one of our Scouting Guiding community to inspire our friends, family
and colleagues - in a fun way - to go a little greener in our everyday lives. The Bharat Scouts
and Guides will also support and observe this Environmental initiative like every year.

This year, Earth Hour will be observed on Saturday 27th March 2021 from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

Ideas for Celebrating Earth Hour

1. As a first step, we can all start by simply switching off our lights and devices on
27 March for one hour, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
2. Have a night of board games or book readings in candle-light.

3. Practice some night-photography or try out "light-painting"--

Want to test your photography skills? Try taking portraits of your family and friends in low-light or candle-light!

4. Write a letter to your future eco-warrior self--

Do you wish to limit your water wastage or purchase eco-friendly goods more often? Why not put all of your sustainability goals into a letter for your future self! It’s a fun way to hold yourself accountable while at the same time do your part in helping our planet!

5.Try Yoga at Home.
